Xiaomi YU9 Spotted: Company’s Third Model Undergoes Testing

Xiaomi’s new model, the YU9, has been spotted during high-altitude testing in the Xinjiang region of China. The company is evaluating the vehicle’s durability and performance under challenging conditions on the Pamir Plateau.
The SUV, named YU9, which is set to be Xiaomi’s third car model, was spotted during road tests in the Xinjiang region of China. Posts by the company’s senior executives indicated that high-altitude testing is ongoing on the Pamir Plateau.

CEO Lei Jun announced on Weibo that the test team had reached the Panlong Ancient Road. This mountain road, approximately 30 kilometers long, features over 600 sharp turns and is located at an altitude of more than 3,500 meters. Lei Jun described it as a “challenging but fascinating route.” More than 20 Xiaomi engineers are currently evaluating the vehicle’s durability and charging performance during this phase.
The technical specifications of the Xiaomi YU9 are not yet finalized, but reports from local media suggest it might feature an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) system. Some sources claim the vehicle could offer a pure electric range of over 400 km with an 80 kWh battery capacity. The total range remains unknown.

The YU9 is expected to be positioned in the D-segment, with a length exceeding 5.2 meters and a height of around 1.8 meters. It is believed that the YU9 will be equipped with a LiDAR sensor. However, some prototypes were observed without this hardware during testing, indicating that different equipment levels are being evaluated.
The ongoing tests in Xinjiang suggest that Xiaomi’s third model is entering the final stages of its development process. We will continue to share updates on the model, which is expected to be introduced in 2026, with our valued readers.
